User Support Technicians - 1 Year

The User Support Technician 1 year diploma program offers the opportunity to become a skilled member of the IT profession.
As part of the diploma program, the student will learn how to effectively field phone and email requests from customers seeking guidance on technical problems, diagnose the problem and patiently walk the customer through the problem-solving process.
The students will have the option to write a limited number of certification exams pending course outcomes.
  • Learn the basic concepts of computer troubleshooting and repair, hardware components, operation concepts of computers
  • Learn to install, configure and troubleshoot computer hardware components
  • Learn to install common operating systems including Windows, Linux, and Mac and perform essential administration tasks
  • Explore the Linux operation system from the perspective of a system power user and administrator
  • Develop your knowledge in Windows Client Configuration including how to install, upgrade and migrate to Windows 10 and working within the Windows 10 operating system
  • Gain an overview of security essentials on computers and networks and learn to troubleshoot and resolve any identified security issues
  • Includes a course that prepares you to write the ITIL Foundation certification exam

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:
  • Install, use, and troubleshoot a variety of common software applications
  • Deploy, troubleshoot, and repair various operating systems in a small network such as an office
  • Prevent and respond to attacks on network and computer security
  • Communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with clients, supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members to quickly and efficiently solve technical issues, reframing technical source material as needed
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate technical training suited to the needs of various client groups
  • Effectively manage a variety of technical support projects
  • Use a scripting language to assess security vulnerabilities on a network

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must have completed 12th grade with English Credits or Credits on transcripts
  • The language of instruction at Atlantic Business College is English. In addition to the academic admission requirements, all applicants for whom English is not their first language and/or are coming from countries where English is not an official language, must provide proof of language proficiency.
  • Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to meet Atlantic Business College’s English language Proficiency requirements:
English language Proficiency:
  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet based test (IBT) – Overall 80 with the minimum in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20.or
  • International English Language Testing (IELTS) Academic Level with scores at or above overall average of 6 AND no band below 5.5 or
  • (IELTS is not required if the candidate is from an English-speaking country.)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) with a score of Certificate and Diploma. Minimum score of 58 with no subject test less than 49 means (49L,49W,49S,49R) or
  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment Test (CAEL) (the online or in-person test) with a score of: Certificate and Diploma Overall band score of 60 or
  • CELPIP: Over all 7 no band below than 6 (6R,6L,6S,6W)
