The Personal Care Attendant – Medical program is a comprehensive 23-week training program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in hospitals, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, and community health care settings. This program provides students with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to assist patients with daily living activities, support nursing staff, and contribute to the comfort, safety, and well-being of individuals requiring medical and personal care.
Students receive training in essential areas such as home care foundations, safety and mobility, body systems, abuse and neglect awareness, personal hygiene assistance, nutrition and hydration, restorative care, medication assistance, family support, end-of-life care, and common health issues. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience through a supervised Clinical Placement, allowing students to apply their learning in real health care environments.

After completing this program students will be able to:
- Answer call signals; supply and empty bed pans; bathe, dress and groom patients; serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of patients and assist patients with menu selection; weigh, lift, turn, and position patients; shave patients prior to operations; supervise patients’ exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for patients, accompany patients on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to patient care and comfort
- Take patients’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor patients’ status and document patient care on charts; collect specimens such as urine, faeces or sputum; administer suppositories, colonic irrigations and enemas and perform other procedures as directed by nursing and hospital staff
- Administer, in emergency situations, first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies
- Transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher for treatment or surgery
- Carry messages, reports, requisitions and specimens between departments
- Make beds and maintain patients’ rooms
- Maintain inventory of supplies
- May perform maintenance tasks such as assisting with the set-up and maintenance of traction equipment, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, maintaining and repairing equipment, and assembling, setting-up and operating job-related equipment

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Copy of the biometric page (first and last page) of your current passport including all the pages that have visa stamps of all other countries.
2. Copy of the Study Permit, Refusal letter if applicant previously applied for a Study Permit to Canada or any other countries.
3. When you are in your final high school or senior secondary/ college / university year, please submit a letter from your institution stating the date of completion of the degree.
4. Senior secondary or high school (Grade 12) transcripts of graduation credentials, courses studied, and grades earned.
5. The language of instruction at Atlantic Business College is English. In addition to the academic admission requirements, all applicants for whom English is not their first language and/or are coming from countries where English is not an official language, must provide proof of language proficiency.
Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to meet Atlantic Business College’s English language Proficiency requirements:

- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet based test (IBT) – Overall 80 with the minimum in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20.or
- International English Language Testing (IELTS) Academic Level with scores at or above overall average of 6.0 AND no band below 5.5
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic). Minimum score of 58 with no subject test less than 49 means (49L,49W,49S,49R)
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment Test (CAEL) (the online or in-person test). Overall band score of 60
