The Early Childhood Education/Educational Assistant Program is designed to train graduates to provide quality services for young children and their families. It is developed to comply with National Guidelines for Training in Early Childhood Care and Education. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to assist classroom teachers in inclusive educational settings and combines theory with practical applications for elementary and secondary age students in the K-12 school system.

This course explores the role of government in childcare. A further examination leads students to understand the role of the director and owner in running the childcare business, leadership, goal setting, and professionalism.

Communication is treated as a shared process, not just techniques. The course explores verbal and nonverbal communication, including differences and similarities in communication styles and effective sending/receiving skills.

Preschool Play ECE - 6 Weeks
Play is primarily intrinsically motivated and central to self-confidence in the preschool years. Students learn to observe play and build developmentally appropriate curriculum from what they see and hear.

This course provides strategies for creating optimal environments for school-age children. Students explore characteristics, learning conditions, and ways to design and lead developmentally relevant activities.

Child Guidance ECE/EA - 9 Weeks
Using a case-study approach, this course examines potential behavior problems and positive solutions. Emphasis is on authoritative, positive guidance grounded in Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP).

Students gain practical skills and confidence to build optimal learning environments. The course addresses sound, lighting, color, noise, space function, storage, and daily learning phases for children.

Autism Intervention ECE/EA - 9 Weeks
Autism is recognized as one of the most common neurological disorders affecting children. This course builds understanding of ASD and focuses on communication, social skills, self-monitoring, and managing challenging behaviors.

Child Development explores continuity and change over time, including major theories and their evolution. Physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development are studied from prenatal stages through age five.

This course introduces education and care for children with special needs through strength-based inclusive planning. Students learn supportive approaches for integrating children with special needs into classroom programs.

Adolescent Development EA - 6 Weeks
Students examine developmental changes in adolescence and learn to appreciate diversity in individuals, families, communities, and cultures that shape adolescent development.

Professional Development EA - 2 Weeks
Students review professional responsibilities, workplace expectations, and current standards that support effective work as an educational assistant.

Final Assessment Project - 6 Weeks
This capstone project integrates key concepts from the full program, allowing students to combine and demonstrate their learning in a complete final submission.
