Home Care Attendant-1 Year

Home care attendant vocation assists with the tasks of daily living and may work in-home care settings. The job description will always vary, but in general, some of the common duties are “Providing personal care and companionship for children, seniors, persons with disabilities and convalescent clients. Care is provided within the client’s residence, in which the home care attendant may also reside.” Atlantic Business College requires that students enrolled in the Home Care Attendant
Program complete all the courses listed below. To receive a diploma a student must
receive a minimum mark of 60 in all compulsory courses and successful completion of all
Clinical Work Placement hours.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Applicants must have completed 12th grade with English Credits on transcripts

2. The language of instruction at Atlantic Business College is English. In addition to the academic admission requirements, all applicants for whom English is not their first language and/or are coming from countries where English is not an official language, must provide proof of language proficiency.

Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to meet Atlantic Business College’s English language Proficiency requirements:

English language Proficiency:

  1. TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet based test (IBT) – Overall 80 with the minimum in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20
  2. International English Language Testing (IELTS) Academic Level with scores at or above overall average of 6.0 and no band below 5.5
  3. Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic). Minimum score of 58 with no subject test less than 49 means (49L,49W,49S,49R)
  4. Canadian Academic English Language Assessment Test (CAEL) (the online or in-person test). Overall band score of 60
  5. CELPIP:  Overall 7 with no band below 6 (6R, 6L, 6S, 6W)

TUITION & FEES:

Total Fees Payable: $14,735

  1. Minimum mark of 70% in each Module with no evaluation method below 70%.
  2. Minimum mark of 70% with no critical deficiencies in each of the Skills Performance Demonstrations.
  3. Demonstrate a satisfactory attendance record by completion of the PSW Attendance Form to be kept in the student’s file. All students must complete the 390 practicum hours.  If for any reason time is missed, it must be made up and documented.
  4. Successful completion of all clinical work placement hours and skills requirements.
  5. Successful completion of the NACC PSW Final Comprehensive Theory Examination (pass mark 65%).
  6. Resume that the student intends to use for job search.
